Chess Tournament at Chick-fil-A
The Crisp County High School Chess Club hosted a tournament Saturday, December 10 at Chick-fil-A. Dr. Rob Bailey, the Chess Club Coach, had players compete against not just each other but other Crisp County youths. Mack Foster, the coach from the Crisp County Primary School, had a number of players as well.
Those competing included Marvin Amerson, Parth Patel, Aiden McEntyre, Nixon
Holloway, Caleb Askew from CCHS, and Abigail Rasmussen, Brentson Northrup, Lucas Gautrey, Jake Atkins, and Knox Rhodes from CCPS and Crisp Academy. All students are thanked for their participation and their good sportsmanship.
The students competed in a best of three matches until two remained. The final match
was Nixon Holloway versus Knox Rhodes. Nixon won (2-0) in the final match.
Coaches Foster and Bailey are looking forward to more joint ventures and boosting the
number of players as well as their playing abilities. Middle School Assistant Principal was also
present and discussed the desire to have a chess club at the middle school as well. Support for
chess in our community is evident and having students in more schools may only be a matter of
time.
Enough thanks cannot be given to Chick-fil-A for hosting the chess match. The coaches
and players are looking forward to having many more matches and working with Chick-fil-Ain
the future.
